Artist Statement:
I am a representational painter working primarily in pastels and oils to create paintings inspired by the landscapes and people I encounter in the diverse places I love: the wooded hills of upstate NY and New England, the beaches and harbors of the East Coast, and the streets of New York City.
My figurative paintings depict a moment in time in everyday life, a fleeting glance that may reveal the mood or character of the subject. In all of my work, I strive to capture the quality of light that can transform an ordinary scene into a compelling work of art.
Linda Armstrong was born in Yonkers, NY and lived on the coast of New Jersey for many years. She studied painting at the Art Students League of New York and printmaking at Binghamton University. Her work is exhibited widely in both national and international exhibits and is in the collections of New York State Council of the Arts, NYSEG, Canada Dry Corporation, SUNY Broome, Wilson Sporting Goods, Haworth Press, Roberson Center and other public and private collections.
She is a master circle member of the International Association of Pastel Societies and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Connecticut Pastel Society, and Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. She is an elected artist member of the Salmagundi Club of NY, Academic Artists Association and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She is also an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.
She currently lives and works in upstate New York and spends part of each summer in Cape Cod.
